Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: What to expect
First appointment & Consultation stage
The initial sessions are part of the consultation stage and are the first step in exploring treatment possibilities. During this stage, the sessions are focused on gaining a deeper understanding of the context of your present difficulties. We will have the opportunity to assess whether the therapy I offer could be beneficial, how you feel about the process, and together we will consider our compatibility as a psychotherapy team. At the end of a consultation process, we might reflect on potential areas of work and we will decide whether to work together and/or consider more suitable, alternative options.
Therapy

Should we choose to begin psychotherapy, sessions are once a week and the treatment takes place under a non-directive psychodynamic framework.
Fee
Fee - £100. Sensible fee adjustments for ongoing work are considered and agreed upon during the work.
The Evidence for Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Research indicates that psychodynamic psychotherapy is effective for treating a range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, personality disorders, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and substance-related disorders.
For additional information, please consult the resources provided. It's crucial to recognise that while psychodynamic therapy is informed by psychoanalytic theory, resulting in a blend of the resources below, the psychodynamic approach to therapy is distinct from psychoanalysis.
